Antique American Stoneware Blue Decorated Batter JugCirca 1850-1870: Attributed to Whites UticaThis 10" New York stoneware batter jug features the classic cobalt freehand decorated jack in the pulpit produced at the Whites Utica pottery in Utica, New York. Because batter jugs were extremely utilitarian in nature and were used on a nearly daily basis in the 19th century American kitchen, they often sustained damage and thus are difficult to find in good condition today. This lovely batter jug is in excellent conditionwith no cracks or repairs and only two small and inconspicuous flakes flakes and will make a pleasing addition to any collection of stoneware, country primitives, or early American antiques.
