Somerset County, Pennsylvania Polychromatic Paint Decorated Blanket ChestThe front and top of this dynamic pine chest are decorated with highly stylized and whimsical Pennsylvania Dutch tulips with long, leafy stems that extend from double handled flowerpots. The central yellow tulip of the front of the chest is a stunning bright yellow. On each side, two rows of bright red hearts frame three more tulips with a peafowl perched in the center! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This incredible paint decorated blanket chest has retained its vibrant early colors by being painted over soon after its creation. When this piece was found in a Somerset County, Pennsylvania, farmhouse, it was covered in old gray paint. Shortly thereafter, the buyer discovered the decoration underneath and sold the chest so the next owner would have the opportunity to properly remove the later gray. It took countless hours of painstaking work to reveal the outstanding original decoration you see in these photographs. A chest of this petite size, 21" high by 34" wide by 16" deep, can fit comfortably even in a small bedroom or large foyer. This rare and truly one-of-a-kind blanket chest bolsters the adage that good things come in small packages.
