Julius Norton 3 Gallon Blue Decorated Stoneware Crock
Signed Julius Norton Bennington, VT
Circa 1841-1850: The fabled Norton family of Bennington, Vermont, whose stoneware production spanned several generations and over 100 years, occupies the forefront of early American stoneware history. Julius Norton used the stamp on this three gallon 12" blue decorated storage jar from 1841 through 1844 and then again from 1847 through 1850. This jar's uncommon floral spray contrasts beautifully with its light Vermont clay and makes it extremely visually pleasing. This is a super piece of 19th century American stoneware from one of its most prominent potters at a very affordable price.
