Rare Grier Bros. Punxsutawney PA 1/2 Gallon Cobalt Decorated Storage JarCirca 1870-1880: The Grier family began making stoneware in the mid 1830s and did not close shop until the end of the first decade of the 20th century. Wares from this Pennsylvania pottery are most often found with fairly sparse freehand cobalt decoration; so this eight inch half gallon stenciled storage jar is a truly rare example of Grier Brothers stoneware. The jar is exceptionally clean with no chips, cracks, or repairs. One small in the making factory stone ping is the piece's only apology, and we mention this only for accuracy. We are quite sure the new owner will be very pleased with this scarce stencil decorated jar!
