Zimmerman did not limit his subject matter to American iconography as is evidenced by this superb giraffe bench. Zimmerman took great care in the making of his pieces. Here, Zimmerman has mortised the seat to the bench ends! Note, too, that the use of red painted eyes recurs throughout the collection.

Zimmerman often left inscriptions on his carvings. This unusual miniature giraffe bench is dated 1946 on the seats underside. WWII had just ended. Archie was 85.
