Blue Decorated Ovoid Two-Gallon Jug
with Hand Painted Sgraffito Tulip and Decorated Handle
Fantastic Early Ovoid Form | New York Circa 1810
Antique American stoneware with incised sgraffito decoration is becoming increasingly difficult to find, and this fine cobalt decorated jug is a handome example of the form. This early jug measures 13 1/2" tall, 9" wide in the center, and a small 5 5/8" at the bottom. Bold freehand cobalt painted flower with wonderful incised marks and a couple extra flourishes of decoration on and around the handle plus highly pronounced ovoid form make this early (circa 1810) piece of American stoneware an exception find.
