Cobalt Decorated Ovoid One-Gallon Storage Jar

Possibly attributed to James River, Virginia

This superb and highly desirable one gallon storage jar features an unusual fruit and vine decoration on both sides, cobalt decorated handles, and a freehand "1" to indicate its one gallon capacity. This beauty also sports a hand-turned lip and a graceful oviod shape, which helps date this piece to circa 1830-1850. The condition is outstanding, the only apology being one tiny insignificant nick (possibly in the making) on the base of the jar.
