Signed West Troy Pottery Cobalt Decorated New York Stoneware Script Jug
I. Nausbaum & Son, 368 Broadway, Albany NY
Circa 1880s: Five gallon script jugs are hard to find, and this handsome I. Nausbaum and Son Albany, New York merchant jug from West Troy Pottery is an excellent example of late 19th centruy American advertising stoneware. This piece is desirable because of its exuberant cobalt decoration, its unusually large size, and the fact that it is also signed by the pottery where it was turned. Condition is excellent with no chips or cracks and only some minor flaking on the back side of the jug. This large piece of antique American stoneware will stand tall in any fine collection of early adverising, stoneware, or country primitives.
