Rare James Fallows Double Horse Bell Toy

Circa 1880s: This whimsical 7.75"H x 8.75"L x 4.5"D early American tin atriculated bell toy with an eye catching pair of yellow horses atop a green base was manufactured by Philadelphia's James Fallows and Sons. The bells ring, and the horses move back and forth in a galloping motion as the toy is pulled, which surely must have been a delight to the toy's young owner. This rare bell toy has completely original paint with no touch ups, and we can find no signs of restoration or repair. We have only located one other extant example of this toy, and it had restoration. It is obvious that very few of these have survived for the obvious reason that early American tin was a delicate medium and a toy as wonderful as this one usually would not have weathered an exuberant child's heavy play use.
