38 Star American Flag with Rare Configuration

Circa 1876-1890: Colorado officially became the 38th American state on August 1, 1876, and flags with whimsical patterns were produced for the American citizenry fly at home or carry during the many centennial parades and events surrounding America's lengthy six month centennial celebration. The 38 star flag officially flew from July 4, 1877 through July 3, 1890, when the 43 star flag would replace it, but 38 star flags were widely produced and flown unofficially in 1876 to commemorate Colorado Territory's upcoming admission into the union. Noted American flag expert Jeff Bridgman asserts that this 17 5/8" x 12" "38 star American national parade flag, printed on cotton... is an extremely rare example of a lineal pattern flag with a wreath or cluster of smaller stars inserted in the center" and proceeds to explain that "only a handful of flags in this style are known to have survived, the colors of which are typically saturated and vibrant, like this example, in dark scarlet red and royal blue." This rare and beautiful flag has been professionally cleaned, mounted, and displayed in a high quality modern 27"H x 21.5"W frame under Bridgman's adept direction and is in excellent conditon with one extremely minor stain that does not impact the flag's visual power and no other condition issues.
